Peterborough Hospice Backed By Housebuilder

A hospice in Peterborough is set to invest in technology to change the lives of its patients thanks to a donation from an East Midlands housebuilder.

The Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall hospice has received a £1,000 grant from Persimmon Homes East Midlands to purchase a syringe driver, which gives patients a consistent dosage of medications making sure they don’t wear off and increase pain levels.

The donation comes as a part of the housebuilder’s Community Champions initiative, which encourages charities to apply for a share of £2,000 up for grabs in the region each month.

Nationally, the scheme has seen over £450,000 handed to good causes this year.

Nilesh Patel, a fundraiser at the Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall hospice, said:

“We are thrilled to be receiving this generous donation from Persimmon Homes East Midlands, which can ensure that each patient is as comfortable as they can possibly be.

“Each syringe driver can be used over and over again, and costs £1,000, benefitting dozens of patients.

“It makes sure they have more freedom, no longer needing to be woken up to take medication, or being able to sit in the garden without having to clock watch.

“As well as this it removes the need for patients to swallow pills and medicines, and can significantly reduce the number of injections required.”

Simon McDonald, deputy managing director at Persimmon Homes East Midlands, said:

“The Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall hospice provides a great service of care to people in Peterborough and we’re proud to support them with a donation for a syringe driver.

“We donated money to Thorpe Hall last year as well, but as they are such a fantastic charity we thought we would back them again with another grant.

“Persimmon Homes East Midlands has had a fantastic response to our Community Champions initiative and it is always difficult to pick a winner.

“If applicants have previously been unsuccessful we urge you to visit our website and re-apply.”
