The grassroots youth football team based in Allenton, Derby, has received funding from Derwent Living to pay for new kit and other costs.

Having previously coached children in America, club manager Matt Trowbridge has been leading the team for the last year and is thrilled that the business has chosen to support them.

He said:

“The sponsorship from Derwent Living is absolutely brilliant. We have been able to get a full kit for each of the players, plus provide equipment such as cones and footballs, which is wonderful.”

There are currently nine players in the Allenton under-8s team, however the football club also has teams all the way up to under-14s and the ‘Allentots’ football group for children aged 4 to 6.

Matt believes it’s important to get kids involved in sports for more than just the fresh air and exercise.

“The children make new friends and it gives the younger ones confidence when they have to move up to secondary school, because they’re playing with older kids,” says Matt. “And for the coaches, it’s so great to see all of the players’ progress throughout the season, both on and off the field.”

And it’s not just fun for the kids; adults wishing to help can get involved too. There are opportunities to help run the club, fundraise or even coach. Allenton United are currently looking for someone to lead their under-13s team and you don’t have to have a child on the team to get involved.

If you would like to get involved or would like more information, please message the club on Facebook or on Twitter @AllentonUnited.

Allenton United’s next fundraising event is a Halloween fancy dress party at Nunsfield House on 22nd October. Entry is from 7pm: admission is £2 for Adults, £1 for children or £5 for a family ticket.
