Ribbon Cut At Derbyshire Primary School's New Building

The High Sheriff of Derbyshire has officially opened a primary school’s brand new £2.2million building during a special ribbon cutting ceremony.

The High Sheriff of Derby, fourth left, is pictured with Alastair Parsons, sales director for Miller Homes, and the Rt Revd Alastair Redfern. Children pictured left to right are Niklas Baker (10), Sam Chambers (10), Caitlin Sharpe (10), Jake Cooper (10), Emily Wakefield (10).

Miller Homes built Brailsford Church of England Primary School’s state-of-the-art facility, which is next to its Dales View development on Luke Lane.

Youngsters moved into the new building halfway through the summer term after leaving the old premises on Main Road, which had been used as a school since 1828.

At the official opening, held on 20th September, parents, civic dignitaries and guests were given a tour of the new school, which boasts four classrooms, sports grounds, a music room, a large hall and library.

A special assembly was held to celebrate the occasion and included songs and performances from the children, an address from the Rt Revd Alastair Redfern, Bishop of Derby and a blessing of the school.

Afterwards, the High Sheriff of Derbyshire, Elizabeth Fothergill cut the ribbon in front of the crowd of excited onlookers. She also unveiled a plaque, which was donated to the school by Kirk Langley-based Impala Stone Ltd.

Alastair Parsons, sales director for Miller Homes, attended the event and he described the new school as an asset to the community:

“We have welcomed many families to our Dales View development and many of those children will be attending Brailsford Primary School.

“This facility is now a focal point for the community, providing a high quality learning environment for both these pupils and many more to come.

“I visited Brailsford on many occasions and have seen the school taking shape over the past year. However, nothing compares to seeing the enthusiasm of the children when they showed us around.”

Acting head teacher Nicola Foulds added that the event had been a success:

“I am delighted that the Bishop and High Sheriff of Derbyshire were able to open our new school, made possible by Miller Homes. I am in no doubt that this new facility will help Brailsford Primary School go from strength to strength.”
