UKATA's Annual Train Safe Campaign Offers FREE Asbestos Awareness Training.

It is a legal requirement that all who may come across asbestos in their day to day work have been provided with asbestos awareness training. If they will intentionally work on asbestos they must have had appropriate training specific to the tasks they will undertake.

There are still thousands of tradespeople who have not received any kind of asbestos training, potentially putting themselves at increased risk of inadvertently exposing themselves to deadly fibres due to disturbing asbestos during building work.

Asbestos remains the biggest single cause of work related deaths in the UK, so we’re always doing everything we can to change perceptions and attitudes. Over 5,000 people a year in Britain die due to asbestos related diseases such as mesothelioma which means that 20 tradespeople die each week due to asbestos exposure, including 8 joiners, 6 electricians and 4 plumbers.

UKATA's annual Train Safe campaign aims to target individual tradespeople, DIY enthusiasts and small companies who may not otherwise benefit from such training or worse still, be aware that such training exists.

UKATA members have generously offered asbestos awareness training at their own expense as they feel so strongly that the message about the dangers of asbestos still needs to be conveyed to the public.

Following the tremendous success of the Train Safe, Work Safe, Keep Safe Campaign in 2015 UKATA has now established this as an annual event in its calendar which will run between the 1st September and 31st October each year.

In 2015 UKATA Members pledged in excess of 3,500 hours of free asbestos awareness training and have backed the campaign again in 2016.

FREE TRAINING is available to small businesses, sole traders and DIY enthusiasts.
