Darren Price, Barratt Homes Northampton’s Site Manager at the Saxon Rise development in Brixworth, won the prestigious NHBC (National House-Building Council) Pride in the Job Quality Award, announced on Friday 17th June.

Barratt Homes Northampton is part of Barratt Developments PLC, which has this year bagged a total of 79 awards for quality workmanship at its sites across the UK – more than any other major developer in the country.

This is the first time Darren has won the award in his five years of working at Barratt Homes. He will now go on to the final round of the competition, which will select the best Site Manager in Britain later this year.

“I’ve been building a great team around me here at Saxon Rise, and we came very close to winning the Pride In The Job award last year,” says Darren, 34. “The key to a well-run site is employing a group of workers you will get the job done right, and this award is as much for them as it is for me.”

Andrew Swindell, Managing Director of Barratt Homes Northampton said: “This official recognition by the NHBC of Darren confirms that we are building some of the best quality homes in the country here in Northampton.”

“We have a great track record in these awards and it’s a testament to the professionalism of Darren and his hard working team at Saxon Rise.”

Brandon Lewis, Housing and Planning Minister, said: “As government and industry work together to build the homes the country desperately needs, it’s important that housebuilders don’t lose focus on quality. The Pride in the Job Awards are a valuable way of recognising great work on site in construction and Barratt Homes can be proud of their success.”

The Pride in the Job Quality Awards are the most coveted in the homebuilding industry and have been instrumental in driving up standards for 35 years. They are awarded after the construction standard setting body, the NHBC, carries out a series of spot check site inspections to select the best-organised and best-quality housing developments.

Thousands of Site Managers throughout the UK were judged on every aspect of their job, including technical skill, quality of workmanship, customer service, and site safety. The Site Managers will now go forward to the final round of the competition which will select the best Site Managers in Britain.
