HR professional follows passion of helping start ups become more ‘attractive, competitive and profitable’ with launch of new business

Rebecca Bull has spent years helping local, national and international firms with their human resource needs - now she’s dedicating her time to helping start-ups flourish with the launch of her new business, My HR Hub.

The HR consultancy has been set up to offer small and fast growth companies a wide selection of ‘one-stop shop services’ products and partnerships across employer branding, recruitment, engagement, reward, wellbeing and HR software systems.

Rebecca bring more than 20 years’ experience to her new venture, having worked in sectors across design, manufacturing, sport, retail, hospitality, computer games and renewable energy in the UK and abroad.

She said:

“I have been lucky to work for global companies as well as many start ups in my career. However, last year was pivotal for me, and after much thought I decided that my passion was more with start up and fast growth companies, so I decided to put all my efforts into establishing My HR Hub. I love the buzz of small companies, creating something from new and seeing how you can clearly make a difference. I am very independent by nature, so the step into working for myself, was more exciting than it was daunting.

“My aims for the business is to stay true to my personal and professional values, which are passion, creativity and making a difference. If I can help employers become more attractive, competitive and profitable, then I am very happy with that. All of my current clients are word of mouth recommendations, so as long as I continue to deliver the value, I would hope that the business will grow across the East Midlands and hopefully beyond.”

Rebecca has previously held roles at Romax Technology, Convergys, Monumental Games and Nottinghamshire-headquarted Speedo and Games Workshop. She established Games Workshop’s HR function from scratch to become solely responsible for more than 120 staff in Nottingham and Germany in less than a year.

She said her biggest challenge will be educating MDs, business owners and line managers of the value of investing in good HR practices and the difference it can make to their business.

“MDs in start ups have so many conflicting priorities; in most cases looking after their employees is an afterthought and HR is the first point of contact when things go wrong. I want to change this fire-fighting approach and show small businesses that pro-active, planned HR working with and aligning to their business plans makes good business sense.”

One of the companies Rebecca has been helping is digital marketing agency Impression, based in Nottingham city centre.

Impression managing director Aaron Dicks said:

“We’re really benefitting from Rebecca’s expertise and feel comfortable leaving our HR functions in safe hands while we focus on our overall business development.

“She’s already helped us organise employee engagement activities and put performance management systems in place; now we’re working together to build a strong recruitment brand, as well as long term planning.”
