Curry Lounge Cooks Up A Storm For Children's Hospital

A well known Indian restaurant that was transformed by Gordon Ramsey, has hosted a charity fundraising afternoon in support of the Nottingham West Pride Lions Club Branch to raise money for Christmas presents for the city's two main hospitals.

The Curry Lounge, based on Upper Parliament Street, as well as volunteers from Nottingham West Pride Lions Club Branch hosted the charity event on December 20, which included Bhangra entertainment, a Christmas present drop off and a three-course buffet lunch.

The Curry Lounge donated £7.00 from every ticket sold to renovate a play area at the Children’s Development Centre at Nottingham’s City Hospital as well as buying presents for patients at the Children's Hospital at the Queens Medical Centre.

Owner of The Curry Lounge, Safdar Azam said: “We are absolutely delighted to have helped out the Nottingham West Pride Lions Club Branch with this fantastic event for a brilliant cause. The afternoon was really good fun and we helped to raise a lot of money for a much needed play area at City Hospital as well as presents for patients at both the Queen’s Medical Centre and City Hospital.

“It was really nice to see so many people come down to support the cause and the club as they do such amazing work all year round. We are just happy we could help out in some way. We just hope now that we can help put a smile on the children’s faces and bring some festive cheer to Nottingham.”

The three-hour fundraising buffet lunch, in its fifth year, played host to a special performance from the world famous Bhangra artist Balwinder Safri, who performed his renowned Punjabi music to the 85 guests.

President of the Nottingham West Pride Lions Club Branch, Joti Malde said:

“This is the fifth year that we have done this kind of event and the first time it has been at the Curry Lounge. We like to focus on helping children at this time of year and want their lives to be better.

“We really want to help put a smile of their faces and bring them some festive cheer, the Christmas present drop off is something they always really enjoy.”

Joti handed over a £1400 cheque, which included donations from the Nottingham West Pride Club Branch members and others, to Ian McDermott from Nottingham City Hospital to renovate a play area in the clinic garden. The funds raised at the event itself, were split between both Nottingham hospitals.

Clinical lead nurse at the Children’s Development Centre at City Hospital, Ian McDermott said:

“We are really grateful for this event as although the Children’s Development Centre is NHS funded, we do also rely on charities and generosity to significantly improve the environment for the children.”
