Memories come flooding in for new book on old Trent Lane dock

Nottingham based sustainable property developer Blueprint has had an overwhelming response from local people with memories of the former Trent Lane inland port for a new book which is to be launched in early 2016.

Blueprint is redeveloping the site at Nottingham Waterside into a £100 million riverside community, Trent Basin, with over 500 houses and apartments planned.

The book’s researcher has received several letters and email correspondence in response to requests for stories, anecdotes and pictures about work and life at the old Trent Lane dock. The book will celebrate the site’s industrial heritage and its place in the city’s history.

Blueprint has been so impressed with the response that it is extending the deadline to encourage more people to send in their pictures and stories.

Nick Ebbs, Blueprint’s Chief Executive, said:

“The Trent Lane Depot was an important industrial and cargo hub for Nottingham during its heyday. Working life on the Trent holds some precious memories from a bygone era and we have had a fantastic response from local people sending in their stories. In order to do the book justice we are now extending the deadline for the book until the end of December."

“We want to capture the essence of what the dock meant to local people who either worked there or lived nearby. The book will be a valuable keepsake and a social record of this inland port which played a vital role in the prosperity of the city before it closed in the 1980s.”

The book will be a gift to the new residents at the Trent Basin development. The first phase of the waterside development, which will comprise 45 homes, is well advanced and due to be ready in Spring 2016. Development of further phases will commence next year.
