Ward Recycling 'Tickled Pink' After New Haulage Contract

Ilkeston based Ward Recycling is today turning one of its lorries pink, after its latest contract looks set to see the firm working alongside one of the stars of the new hit TV series, Bin There Dump That!

Kara Rouse, 40, and her pink hair, is now better known for appearing on the new Bin There Dump That! series, which was broadcasted on Watch (Sky 109), but has in recent years become a regular at the Ward Recycling site in Ilkeston.

Dave Ward Junior, of Ward Recycling, said:

"Kara has been a regular to our site over the last three years, and after we awarded her employer, EWS with a brand new haulage contract last week resulting in a new vehicle, she refused to swap lorries unless we wrapped hers in pink!

"Needless to say, we aren't the type to stand in the way of her new found stardom so we have just finished wrapping our very first pink articulated lorry!"

Kara currently works for Alfreton based, waste disposal specialists EWS, which have recently been awarded the new haulage contract by Ward Recycling.

She said:

“I wouldn’t say that I was a celebrity as such but I have certainly been spoilt with the pink lorry- I was very serious about it and I got it. I am the only one with a personalised lorry and it even has a personalised cartoon of me on it.

“It has been a while since the show was aired and I have since been asked to appear on the antiques roadshow but turned it down, I’m happy here and know nothing about antiques! The partnership with Ward Recycling is a three year contract and it has been very successful so far, as long as I can keep my pink lorry, I believe we will have an exciting future.”

Dave Ward Junior believes that the arrival of a waste industry celebrity is fantastic for the trade as there is a push in many other industries such as construction and demolition to raise female numbers and recycling and waste management should be no different.

Dave added:

"It is exciting working with Kara, as she has certainly gained a bit of a following since the show aired and obviously she is very good at her job.  I’d love to see more women joining what is perceived as a male orientated industry.”
