Two new directors for agency – but another three needed to boost enterprise efforts

Enterprise agency Erewash Partnership has two new directors on its board – but is looking for more to support its role of fostering enterprise and regeneration.

Maggie Throup, the new Conservative MP for Erewash has replaced her predecessor Jessica Lee, and Councillor Michael Powell, the borough council member for Long Eaton Wilsthorpe, has also joined in his new capacity as lead member for planning and regenaration.

Councillor Powell spent 38 years in the railway industry including as commercial director of British Rail Research Division at London Road, Derby, and running his own consultancy. He was seconded to be chief executive of the first enterprise agency in Derbyshire, Derby and Derbyshire Business Venture, and was a president of Derby and Derbyshire Chamber of Commerce.

But the Partnership, a not-for-profit organisation which is in its 21st year of encouraging industrial and commercial activity to boost the economic and social well-being of the borough, needs three more directors to fill vacancies.

Chief executive Ian Viles said volunteers are needed from local industry and commerce who have a passion for the area and for enterprise.  The full board holds five meetings a year but there are sub-groups dealing with different subjects that also meet in between.

Ian said: “We are delighted that Maggie and Michael have joined the board. Their knowledge, experience, and contacts will be invaluable.

“However, we would like to hear from other suitable people from the area who feel they could spare some time to help the Partnership in its task of making the local economy even more vibrant in these challenging times.”
