Derby Software Firm Develop Site In Branson’s ‘Pitch To Rich’ Shortlist

A Derby based software giant has developed a website which is in pole position to receive a funding boost from Virgin boss, Richard Branson, as part of a new competition called Pitch to Rich

iBox-Security, based in Kings Chambers, landed the contract to develop a fully interactive website for Team Magnus, a brand providing children’s outdoor adventure equipment and clothing, back in January, and now the iBox-Security client, has been selected as one of only 18 companies nationwide to pitch in the UK Virgin Tour. More than 1000 companies have entered the competition.

The Virgin Media Business' Pitch to Rich competition, is a £1m competition, which aims to help 10 UK start-ups and established businesses, to grow and win new customers through marketing and cash support.

British businesses can apply for one of three categories. There is £150,000 in marketing support available for the most exciting start-up, with two runners up receiving support worth £50,000.

Entrepreneurs with a big idea that could disrupt an existing market can compete for a £50,000 prize, with £10,000 for two runners up.

For existing businesses that are looking to accelerate growth, like Team Magnus, there is £250,000 worth of marketing support available, with two runner-up prizes of £100,000.

Sean Price, Managing Director at iBox-Security, who developed the site, said:

“Last year we obtained a list of UK businesses running on an old piece of software, and Team Magnus was one of these. After speaking to the team, we began putting together a brand new site on a new fully functional platform.

“We found out yesterday that the brand has now been shortlisted in the competition, and the new site was a cog in that submission process. We are delighted that our work will be put in front of Richard Branson, and we are keeping our fingers firmly crossed for the team.”

Kristine Moody, Managing Director at Team Magnus, said:

"The ingenious process used to work out potentially interesting customers, including Team Magnus, was the reason we picked iBox-Security - It made me realise that the firm was not just another design-oriented firm, but a business with strong IT skills, ideal for long term ecommerce development."

The top fifty entrants with the highest votes from each category will progress through to the semi-finals, and the finalists will be revealed on June 2.
