Growing Nottingham Launches New Business Support Directory

Growing Nottingham Launches New Business Support Directory

A new and extended version of Growing Nottingham’s hugely successful Business Support Directory has just been launched. The Directory provides local enterprises, and those looking to relocate to Nottingham, with a definitive guide and support tool, designed to serve as a ‘one-stop-shop’ for people looking to invest, grow and forge a successful business in the city.

Compiled and produced by the Growing Nottingham campaign, as part of its ambitious Growth Plan to reshape and grow the local economy, the Directory features collective information from some of the agencies and organisations that are delivering support services to Nottingham businesses.

Over recent years, the city of Nottingham has evolved as new industries have emerged across a number of sectors. Split into clearly defined sections, the updated directory provides a suite of products and services to help businesses on their journey from first start-up to expansion and export, both in the UK and internationally.

Invaluable information about available funding, recruitment and training advice, business development guidance and how to access council services is covered within the directory. The Access to Finance section alone advises on how Nottingham businesses can access millions of pounds of available finance through programmes currently running in the city.  The support directory also provides businesses with a valuable set of key contacts.

Cllr Nick McDonald is Portfolio Holder for Jobs and Growth at Nottingham City Council:

“When you’re starting a business it can be difficult to understand how many different forms of support are out there. From loans and grants to help with recruiting and training staff to business development support, there’s a lot on offer. Often for time-pressed small businesses finding out about what’s available and knowing who to contact can be difficult - by producing this directory, we hope to cut out some of the legwork and make it easier.

“There really has never been a better time to start up a company than now, and we want to help aspiring entrepreneurs and small businesses to make that journey.”

Since its launch in 2012, the pace of delivery of Growth Plan projects has accelerated – the impact of which can be seen in the employment and business finance outputs. As a direct result of Growth Plan activity in 2013-2014, 2,524 people were helped into jobs (1,489 in 2012-2013) and £9.6m business finance was committed (£0.5m in 2012-2013).

The recent Cities Outlook 2015 report from Centre for Cities identified Nottingham among the country's top performing cities for job growth, in its annual health-check of the economic performance of the UK’s 64 largest cities. This year’s report highlights the widening gap between the UK’s best and worst performing cities, with Nottingham listed amongst the top 10.

With the 2 year appraisal of the Growth Plan showing progress across all 12 programmes, Nottingham businesses can look ahead with growing self-confidence.
