Institute of Financial Accountants Members Meeting to Discuss Amalgamation

Members of the Institute of Financial Accountants (IFA) in the East Midlands are set to meet at the Stoneycroft Hotel, Leicester on Monday the 24th of November from 6.30-9.00pm to hear more about the planned amalgamation of the near-100 year old professional body with Australia’s Institute of Public Accountants to create the world’s biggest accountancy organisation focused solely on small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs), representing 35,000 members and students.

The planned amalgamation is subject to approval by over 50 per cent of the IFA members that are eligible to exercise their right to vote. They will cast their vote either by proxy or in person at a special general meeting to be held on 16th December.

Both Institutes focus their attention on the accounting and taxation reporting needs of small and medium sized accountancy practices and businesses. The autonomy and brands of each Institute will be preserved and the office-bearers of each believe, amalgamation will “provide the foundation of a stronger, more powerful voice for members and the sector globally”.

John Edwards, IFA Chief Operating Officer, who will be addressing the meeting, said:

“We at the IFA acknowledge that we need to secure continued growth in our membership numbers and enhancement of our current operating model to give us a leading role as the voice for both SMEs and small to medium-sized practices (SMPs).

“Like all IFA members in the UK and overseas, those in East Midlands are being asked to vote on the plan to join forces with a credible, like-minded, dynamic accountancy body that shares our vision to lead the profession globally and to have a lasting impact on the professional careers of our members long into the future.”

“The IFA Council strongly believes in this strategic direction and fully commends it to IFA members for approval,” said the Chair of the IFA Council, Catherine Chamberlain.
