Engineering consultancy Rodgers Leask has signed up a celebrated name in the industry to help raise the firm's profile in the highly competitive sector.

Ken Carter, who has 40 years experience during which time he became a senior partner at Gleeds International Management and Construction Consultancy, has joined Derby-headquartered Rodgers Leask as a consultant two days a week.

Ken (63), was originally from London, but his family moved to the Derby area when he was 12. He was educated at Ecclesbourne School, Duffield, and then Nottingham Trent Polytechnic (now university), where he gained a degree in quantity surveying.

He joined Gleeds' Derby office in 1972 and in the late 1980s opened an office in Burton. In his career he has worked on projects totalling more than £100bn.

His vast expertise ranges from providing project and cost management services to funding consultancy and strategic advice to clients across a multitude of sectors.

Ken's experience enabled him to work with many of the largest UK firms and some notable projects at home and abroad. He managed a £100m project to dismantle a brewery and relocate it to China.

In 2012 Ken's outstanding contribution to the property and construction industry was formally recognised with a special lifetime achievement award at the East Midlands Property Dinner sponsored by Business Insider magazine.

Ken, a Fellow of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors, lives in Mickleover, Derby. He was project director for building Derby County's stadium in Pride Park. Now, Rodgers Leask hope he will help promote the company into the top league of the industry.

Managing director Andy Leask , who has known Ken professionally for 30 years, said:

“Ken joining us has been a revelation. He is starting to open our eyes to the potential of what we could achieve by focusing our selling and marketing efforts in areas that we had never previously imagined.

“His experience, contacts and approach are invaluable. He has engaged with our staff in a positive and pro-active manner.”

Ken said;

“I'm excited to be working with Rodgers Leask. It's a new challenge for me. There are really good people working here, and I'm happy to add my experience.”

Rodgers Leask, which also has offices in Birmingham and London as well as Canal Street, Derby, operates nationwide, and has a number of blue chip clients, including Rolls-Royce, Jaguar Land Rover, St Modwen, the NEC Group, Paul Smith and the Ministry of Defence.
