If you feel like you are in your dream job and look forward to going to work all the time, you probably live in the East Midlands.

New research has found that a quarter of office workers in the East Midlands say they are in their dream job.

17% say they look forward to going to work all of the time
(compared to a national average of 15%)

45% said they looked forward to going to work most of the time
(compared to a national average of 32%)

The survey of 1883 UK office workers was commissioned by Expert Market, an online office supplies provider.

One reason for the abundance of happy workers may be the shorter than average commute. Those in the East Midlands have an average commute of 32 minutes compared to 56 in London.

The research also showed that office workers in the East Midlands are less likely to experience work place discrimination than the national average.

14% of employees in East Midlands said they had experienced racism in the workplace,( compared to a national average of 17%)

23% said they had experience sexism
(compared to a national average of 26%).

Unsurprisingly 71% said they would enjoy their job even more if...
they got paid more, though others said an office pet, a free bar and more attractive colleagues would also keep them happy.

Charlotte Maddison. 28, who lives in Bingham in Nottinghamshire said: “My office is about two miles from my house, even though I could bike or run, I still take the car. However I love my commute, I can be in the office in ten minutes.

“When I lived in London people were grumpy and the commute took forever. I can see why people are happier to go to work near where we live, than anywhere else.”

However when it came to dream jobs, there was a huge disparity between Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire, and Lincolnshire and Derbyshire.

A quarter of workers in Notts and a third of those in Leics, said they were in their dream job. However it was a very different story across the county borders. Only 9.5% (or one in ten) Lincolnshire workers said their job was their dream, and only 4% of Derbyshire workers agreed.

A spokesperson from www.expertmarket.co.uk said: “As a whole, workers in the East Midlands are much happier than those across the country. In particular those in Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire appear to be exceptionally happy with their roles.

“There is lots employers can do to help their employee feel happier at work, and these results show that better management, more generous pay and a bar on Fridays would all do a bit to help.”
