Youngest stars of Children 1st have an Outstanding Day!

Youngest stars of Children 1st have an Outstanding Day!

It was a major feat – 2276 children, 230 miles, 45 special envoys, 15 torch bearers and 1 torch, all organised into a fantastic Torch Relay involving all of the Children 1st nurseries throughout the East Midlands.

It started at 8.15am at our nursery in Sheffield with Arthur (4) proudly carrying the torch alongside the giant star of Sheffield Sharks basketball team, Zach Gachette. The torch was then passed on to Tyler, also age 4 , at Children 1st @ St Peter & St Paul in Chesterfield, cheered on by the police, fire service and Snow White!

Chesterfield’s Mayor and Mayoress kindly greeted the arrival of the Relay at Children 1st @ Chesterfield, and at Clowne the children performed the Official Olympic Dance to celebrate the torch’s arrival.

The Torch then passed through our nurseries in Newark, Grantham, Plumtree, and Leicester, after which it got to Shepshed where Amelie and her very enthusiastic envoys used so much energy getting to Stoke that they had a snooze on the way back to their party tea! The torch continued on to our Meir Park nursery in Stoke, eagerly welcomed by Pottermus, the Stoke City mascot.

From there, it made its way to Acorns Nursery at Tean, and then all the way back to Long Eaton, where all 4 of our Outstanding nurseries (Derby Rd, Main St, Acton Rd and Toton) went to massive effort to receive the torch and its entourage in great style.

The whole day culminated in a party at Children 1st @ Toton, where the torch was welcomed back by BAFTA award winning actress Vicky McClure, a huge crowd of parents, children and staff and local CSO Sean Davison. Finally, Kai (4), the torch bearer at Toton and his envoys completed a circuit of the nursery gardens before ‘lighting’ the cauldron at the end of its journey.

A great celebration for a year of outstanding results for all – 9 Ofsted Outstanding ratings in 9 months, a fabulous achievement in any arena!
